"To love is to destroy, and to be loved

is to be the one destroyed." - Cassandra Clare

Enjoy at a high level, as you are used to from Cassandra Clare. What an insanely gifted writer she is. Always a guarantee for books full of excitement, magic, unbridled, passionate love and adventure. In which she also dares to stick her neck out for all sexualities that are other than heterosexual. Without it detracting from the power of the story.

The hunt for a murderous cult demands the utmost of confidence

Alexander Lightwood and Magnus Bane do not have the easiest relationship on paper. As a Shadowhunter it is always a bit complicated how to deal with subdues. Because no matter how handsome and charming Magnus is, he is and will always be an underdog. Still, Alec has lost his heart Magnus. The relationship is only very early, so the couple goes on vacation to get to know each other better. Magnus intends to pull out everything within his magical powers to make it an unforgettable vacation. Getting to know that better only gets a sinister touch. Magnus has already experienced a lot in his long life. Long ago he started a cult as a joke. The joke has now disappeared, the cult turns out to be quite murderous and dangerous. Alec and Magnus travel across Europe in search of the cult's new leader. Can they trust each other with their lives?

Funnily enough, Lady Midnight was the first book by Kassandra Clare that I read. Funny, because this fantastic writer, whose books I really love, had never caught my eye before. Scarlet Magic is the first part of a new trilogy and a rock-solid start. The flamboyant Magnus Bane and the mysterious, somewhat difficult to fathom Alec Lightwood are perfect characters to tell a story. The all-encompassing love between the two is so aptly written that they rush straight into your heart. But don't expect a gooey novel now. Fire, passion, passion, danger. Everything in this book, every adventure, every battle is one of 100%. It's raw and tender at the same time. The plot buzzes on. Just as Alec never wants to let go of Magnus, you as a reader don't want to let the couple go either.

Raw, passionate and exciting adventure novel

For loyal Cassandra Clare readers, the Shadowhunters world is getting richer. A period that we had not yet explored is being uncovered. Events once mentioned in passing in other books take shape. And for those who have never read anything from Clare. Be warned: after this you are bound to be addicted. Scarlet magic fires your imagination and draws you into adventure. Fortunately, the story is not over yet. Can we passionately enjoy Alec and Magnus for two more parts.
